“The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically condemns such inhumane and barbaric move,” Rouhani said on Tuesday, and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group released a video on February 15 that appeared to show the beheadings of 21 Christian Egyptians kidnapped in Libya.
The video showed the Egyptian workers, all wearing orange jump suits, being beheaded near a waterfront said to be located in the Libyan province of Tripoli.
President Rouhani also expressed regret that such “un-Islamic” moves are being made in the name of Muslims, underscoring that the ISIL’s terrorist and inhumane measures go counter to Islam.
No common sense would agree with the ISIL terrorists’ brutal acts, the president added, noting that releasing the video of such crimes would only intensify hatred and violence.
