Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday the report by Ahmed Shaheed has been filed in disregard of the UN's human rights mechanisms and international principles and regulations.
She expressed Iran’s serious doubt about the “unfair and unscientific” performance of the UN special rapporteur, saying Shaheed’s report has been prepared based on “incorrect and illegal” approaches.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is well aware of its national and international in the field of human rights and has always maintained good and broad cooperation with international mechanism in this regard,” Afkham said.
She reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to its undertakings to improve civil rights and rights of minorities and women, saying the country has adopted very important measures in that regard and would proceed with its efforts.
In part of his latest report released on March 12, Shaheed accused Iran of violating the rights of jailed drug traffickers, murderers and other criminals.
