Hamas made the announcement on Tuesday, a week after its politburo chief Haniyeh was assassinated by the Israeli regime in his accommodation in Tehran.

Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the inaugural of the country’s new president Masoud Pezeshkian a day earlier.   

Sinwar has been Hamas’s leader in Gaza.
