Esmaeil Baghaei made the statement on Thursday in response to Canberra’s recent expulsion of the Iranian ambassador.
“We do not welcome the downgrading of diplomatic relations, as we believe there is no justification for such a move. It negatively affects the ties between the two nations,” Baghaei said, describing Australia’s decision as unjustifiable.
He emphasized that the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Canberra remains operational and active. Baghaei also firmly rejected allegations of anti-Semitism.
On August 26, Australia announced the expulsion of Iran’s ambassador, accusing Tehran of orchestrating two Antisemitic incidents in Sydney and Melbourne last year. The claims were categorically denied by Iran. Additionally, Australia recalled its ambassador from Tehran.
Australia’s decision has sparked reactions within Iran.
