Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Accuses Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Rajji stated: “We have received warnings from international parties indicating that Israel is preparing for an operation against Lebanon.”

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Lebanon’s Foreign Minister, Yousef Rajji, referenced growing warnings about a possible Israeli attack on Lebanon and said Beirut is prepared to engage in dialogue with Iran.

He emphasized that Lebanon is expanding its diplomatic efforts to protect the country and its infrastructure from any potential Israeli assault.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, the minister clarified that recent meetings of the “mechanism committee” do not imply that Lebanon is engaged in traditional negotiations with Israel.

“We seek a return to the ceasefire agreement with Israel,” he said, adding that a peace treaty is currently out of reach.

In a series of unfounded accusations, Rajji claimed: “Hezbollah’s weapons have proven ineffective — in supporting Gaza, in defending Lebanon, and in deterring Israeli aggression.”

He added that the Lebanese government is in talks with Hezbollah to convince the group to surrender its weapons, but Hezbollah has refused.

Rajji also acknowledged differences between Tehran and Beirut — particularly Iran’s support for Hezbollah — while expressing Lebanon’s readiness to hold talks with Iran.

In further accusations against Tehran, he said: “Iran’s role in Lebanon and the region is highly negative, and its policies are a source of instability.”

Rajji added: “We have issues with Iran, and we are ready for dialogue — on the condition that it stops interfering in our internal affairs. Iran must also halt its financial support for an illegal organization operating in Lebanon.”

His remarks follow an earlier statement in which he apologized for declining Iran’s invitation to visit Tehran, explaining that refusing the invitation did not mean rejecting dialogue, but that the current conditions were not suitable for such a visit.

Rajji reiterated his call for Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to hold a bilateral meeting in a neutral third country, agreed upon by both sides.
