According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, Speaking on the sidelines of the Asian Youth Para Games in the UAE, Minister Ahmad Donyamali said the overlap was not initiated by FIFA but resulted from local planning in the host country. He noted that both Iran and Egypt view the issue as sensitive.
“We are asking FIFA to speak with local authorities so that the timing of the event is shifted. We prefer that it does not coincide with the Iran–Egypt match,” Donyamali stated.
Questions had also circulated regarding the possibility of the United States denying visas to certain Iranian players ahead of the tournament. Donyamali dismissed the rumors, emphasizing that host nations are obligated to follow international sporting regulations.
“Professionally, such a move should not happen. But given the United States’ behavior in other areas, concerns remain. Still, international rules should prevent any problems,” he said.
The minister added that FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who recently visited Iran’s dressing room, reassured players that their participation in the World Cup would not face obstacles. Iran’s Foreign Ministry is also monitoring the issue.

Donyamali further revealed that Iran is preparing three to four high-profile friendly matches ahead of the tournament, with Portugal listed as a potential opponent. He noted that any final arrangements must comply with FIFA’s scheduling restrictions.
Regarding Iran’s participation in the Asian Youth Para Games, the minister said the country had sent a “full and well-prepared delegation,” with plans to build momentum for upcoming events in Nagoya and the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. Many young athletes, he added, were competing internationally for the first time.
“These children are sensitive; a victory brings them tremendous joy, and a loss deeply affects them. Despite limitations, they are determined to raise Iran’s flag,” he said, adding that all athletes remain valued “regardless of final results.”
