Foiled Hijacking Attempt on Mashhad–Tehran Flight

A senior Iranian aviation security official has announced that a sabotage attempt on a domestic flight was foiled in mid-November 2025, stressing that no passengers were harmed and the aircraft reached its destination safely.

According to Khabaronline, According to the commander of the IRGC Aviation Protection Unit, an individual on a Mashhad–Tehran flight attempted to disarm a member of the onboard security team and raised the prospect of a hostage situation. The threat was quickly and effectively neutralized through coordinated action by in-flight security personnel, and the aircraft landed safely at Mashhad Airport.

The official added that other threats, including bomb-related claims, have been reported in recent months, but all were handled at preventive stages without escalating into operational or security crises.

The report notes that aviation security in Iran operates around the clock, with an average of approximately 500 domestic and international flights monitored daily. Over the past year alone, around 45 million passengers were screened at 67 operational airports nationwide.
