According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, The Ministry declared that since Canada has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — a principal branch of Iran’s official armed forces — as a terrorist organization in violation of international law, the Iranian government now recognizes and designates the Royal Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization.
The full text reads:
“In reaction to the unlawful decision of the Canadian government on June 19, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran hereby states:
Since the Government of Canada, in contravention of fundamental principles of international law, has designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — an integral component of the official armed forces of the country — as a terrorist organization, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on the principle of reciprocity and pursuant to Article 7 of the 2019 law titled ‘Countermeasure Against the United States’ Designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Terrorist Organization’, which stipulates that ‘all countries that in any way follow or support the United States’ decision to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization shall be subject to reciprocal measures,’ therefore considers the Royal Canadian Navy to fall under this law and its provisions, and accordingly designates it as a terrorist organization as part of its reciprocal action.”
