Iran Ranks Among the World’s Top 10 Countries in Infertility Treatment

Based on scientific and clinical assessments, Iran is ranked among the world’s top 10 countries in the field of infertility treatment.

According to Khabaronline, According to the head of the Iranian Scientific Association for Infertility and Reproductive Health, this position is the result of broad access to advanced medical technologies, a highly skilled professional workforce, and competitively priced treatment services.

Hamid Choubineh, the association’s president, said in a media interview that one in every five couples in Iran faces infertility challenges—an issue largely influenced by the rising age of marriage in recent years. Nevertheless, he stressed that in terms of medical expertise and assisted reproductive technologies, Iran operates at a level fully comparable to advanced countries, with the necessary infrastructure in place to provide effective, science-based infertility treatment.

According to Choubineh, all standard methods and techniques currently used in advanced infertility treatment centers worldwide are also available in Iran. He believes that if international restrictions and political barriers did not exist, Iran could have emerged as one of the main hubs for infertility medical tourism in the region—and even in Europe.

Referring to past experiences, he added that around a decade ago, some European officials—including the then Vice President of the Italian Senate—had publicly expressed interest in referring infertile European couples to Iranian medical centers. Factors such as the high level of expertise of Iranian physicians, the scientific credibility of the treatments, significantly lower costs compared to Europe, the absence of long waiting lists, and Iran’s tourism attractions were cited as the main reasons for this attention.

He emphasized that Iran does not face any structural shortages in providing infertility treatment services, and that a substantial portion of the required consumable medical supplies is produced domestically. Although there are occasional fluctuations in the supply of certain imported medications or equipment, patients still have access to the latest infertility treatment methods used globally.

Iran’s position in the field of infertility treatment presents a different image of the country’s scientific capabilities in medicine—one that portrays Iran not merely as a political actor, but as a credible center of medical knowledge and treatment in the region.
