Baghaei Echoes Warnings Over U.S. Actions in Venezuela

Esmaeil Baghaei, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a message published on the X social media platform, highlighted key excerpts from the statements made by the President of the “UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.”

According to Khabaronline, “The issue before the international community is not the character of the government of Venezuela. The issue is whether any member State—by force, coercion, or economic strangulation—has the right to determine Venezuela’s political future or to exercise control over its affairs.

This question goes directly to Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.

Since 1947, the United States’ foreign policy has repeatedly employed force, covert action, and political manipulation to bring about regime change in other countries. These methods are well established and well documented.

They include open warfare, covert intelligence operations, and economic warfare. These measures are illegal under the UN Charter, and they typically result in ongoing violence, lethal conflict, political instability, and deep suffering of the civilian population.

Members of the Security Council are not called upon to judge governments. They are called upon to defend international law, specifically the United Nations Charter. Peace and the survival of humanity depend on whether the United Nations Charter remains a living instrument of international law or is allowed to wither into irrelevance.”

These remarks were delivered during a United Nations Security Council session on January 5, 2026, regarding the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela.
