U.S. Sanctions Ali Larijani and Iranian Officials Over Crackdown on Protests

The U.S. Treasury Department announced new sanctions on five Iranian officials, including Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, The U.S. accuses these individuals of “suppressing protests” and monitoring financial transfers by Iranian officials to banks worldwide.

Other sanctioned officials include commanders from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the police force in various provinces. Additionally, 18 individuals and entities involved in Iran’s oil sales to foreign markets were also sanctioned.
