Ghalibaf: Under Iranian Law, NATO and EU Armies Are Considered Terrorist Organizations

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, said on Sunday that under Iran’s law on “reciprocal action against the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization,” NATO and the armed forces of European Union member states are regarded as terrorist entities by the Islamic Republic.

According to Khabaronline, In a pre-agenda speech delivered in an open parliamentary session, Ghalibaf described recent European efforts to label the IRGC as “irresponsible and politically motivated,” saying the move was made under pressure from the United States and Israel. He warned that such decisions would accelerate Europe’s marginalization in the future global order.

Ghalibaf emphasized that the IRGC is an integral part of Iranian society and plays a key role in ensuring national security, combating terrorism, and providing assistance during crises, including natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He argued that by targeting an institution Tehran considers one of the main barriers to the spread of terrorism in the region and beyond, European governments are acting against their own security interests.

He also highlighted the IRGC’s role in defeating ISIS, noting that the force paid a heavy price in the fight against international terrorism, including the killing of senior commander Qassem Soleimani.

Ghalibaf further called for national unity, urging officials to prioritize economic challenges, public livelihoods, and addressing legitimate public demands, while warning against placing factional interests above national priorities.

During the same session, Ghalibaf instructed the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee to review the status of European military attachés stationed at embassies in Iran, in line with the country’s reciprocal legislation.

In a symbolic response to the European move, Iranian lawmakers appeared in parliament wearing IRGC uniforms and chanted slogans in support of the force and against the policies of the United States, Israel, and the European Union.
