Saudi Arabia Denies Anti-Iran Remarks Attributed to bin Salman

Following a report by the U.S.-based news outlet Axios suggesting a shift in Saudi Arabia’s stance toward Iran, a senior Saudi official has firmly denied any anti-Iran remarks attributed to Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman.

According to Khabaronline, According to the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, the senior official stated that claims circulating in some media outlets about a change in Riyadh’s position on escalating regional tensions are inaccurate.

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s official policy remains unchanged and is based on supporting efforts to find peaceful solutions to disputes between the United States and Iran through dialogue and diplomatic channels—an approach aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening regional security and stability.

The official reiterated Saudi Arabia’s firm opposition to the use of its airspace or territory for any military action against Iran, stressing Riyadh’s continued commitment to avoiding escalation and steering developments toward political solutions.

The clarification came after Axios reported on a closed-door briefing in Washington, citing sources who claimed that Prince Khalid bin Salman had warned that U.S. restraint from military action against Tehran could weaken regional deterrence and expand Iran’s influence.

However, Asharq Al-Awsat quoted the Saudi official as saying that such claims do not reflect the kingdom’s official position, which Saudi Arabia has repeatedly articulated in public communications. This position includes respect for Iran’s sovereignty and a clear refusal to engage in any military path that could lead to dangerous regional consequences.

The official added that Saudi Arabia will continue working with its regional and international partners to prioritize de-escalation and diplomacy, warning against any new military confrontation in the region that would impose heavy costs on all parties involved.

He concluded by stressing that Riyadh believes there is no sustainable military solution to the region’s crises and that lasting stability can only be achieved through political understanding and adherence to international law.
