“The motion to close the Strait of Hormuz has been signed by 150 lawmakers so far and it will be presented to the Majlis (parliament) Presiding Board once 250 lawmakers sign it,” Javad Karimi Qodousi said on Sunday.
He also said that Iran would keep the Strait of Hormuz blocked for as long as the sanctions imposed against Tehran stay in effect.
“Based on the motion, the [Hormuz] Strait will remain closed until the nullification of all the sanctions against the Islamic Republic,” and once the embargoes have been removed, “the government can open the strait for the passage of ships under 14 conditions,” the Iranian lawmaker added.
One condition, he explained, is taking three percent of the value of the oil exported through the Strait of Hormuz from the importers of the oil of the Persian Gulf region and depositing the money to Iran's Central Bank.
Earlier on Sunday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei makes the final decision about closing the Strait of Hormuz.
On June 14, Commander of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Ali Fadavi said Iran has the ability to close the strait and has proved its capability during the eight years of imposed war with Iraq.
