Ali Asghar Soltanieh visited the survivors of the late inspector, Seo Ok-seok in Vienna on Tuesday evening.
“I was saddened by the news that one of the staff of the International Atomic Energy Agency, during his mission, passed away in a car accident. It is very unfortunate,” he said.
Soltanieh also told his wife that the necessary arrangements had been made regarding her visa requirement for travel to Iran.
The Iranian envoy also addressed a letter of condolence to the IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and Herman Nackaerts, the agency’s deputy director general and head of the Department of Safeguard.
The inspector was riding in a car together with another inspector from Slovenia on Tuesday when the vehicle overturned near a heavy water reactor, which was being built in the city of Khondab, about 250 kilometers (150 miles) to the southwest of Tehran.
The Slovenian inspector and the driver were injured in the accident.
Medical officials say the Slovenian is feeling good and is expected to leave the hospital on Wednesday.
The two were part of an IAEA team that periodically visits the heavy water nuclear reactor in the city of Arak in west-central Iran.
