Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Baqeri stresses the importance of holding preparatory expert meetings before the upcoming talks between Tehran and the six major world powers (P5+1) in Moscow.

In two separate letters to Helga Schmid, deputy to EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, the SNSC official expressed Iran's readiness to hold preparatory meetings before the negotiations.

“Success of the Moscow meeting will depend on making the necessary preparation and setting a comprehensives agenda agreed by the sides,” he added.

In his letters, a copy of which was sent to the representatives of the P5+1 states, Baqeri stressed holding the preparatory expert meetings in the brief remaining time until the talks as the P5+1 has so far failed to make any attempts regarding the issue.

Maja Kocijancic, an EU spokeswoman, said late Tuesday that the EU has replied to Baqeri.

To be more specific, Ms. Schmid replied to the letters on Monday, Kocijancic added.

Iran and the P5+1 - Russia, China, Britain, France, the US and Germany -- wrapped up their latest round of comprehensive talks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on May 24 after two days of negotiations.

The Iranian delegation was headed by SNSC Secretary Saeed Jalili and the P5+1 delegations were headed by EU foreign policy chief Ashton.

Both sides agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow on June 18 and 19.
