First Deputy of Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Robert Galiullin has called for an expansion of trade and economic relations between the Russian autonomous republic and Iran.

During a Sunday meeting with the East Azerbaijan provincial governor, Ahmad Alirezabeigi, in Tabriz, Galiullin said Iran enjoys great potentials in petrochemical industries and agriculture, and can be a good trade partner for Tartarstan.

He also touched on Tatarstan’s potential for tourism, noting that the autonomous territory was recognized as Russia’s best tourist resort in 2011.
Galiullin further highlighted that Tatarstan, with its ‘marvelous’ investment opportunities, is open to Iranian businessmen, stressing that Tatar President Rustam Minnikhanov guarantees the return of the capital invested in the autonomous republic.

The senior Tatar trade official also called for the establishment of a direct flight between the Tatarstan capital, Kazan, and Tehran.

Alirezabeigi, for his part, stated that the volume of exports between Iran and Tatarstan has increased significantly in the past years, adding that opportunities must be explored to further enhance the bilateral economic ties.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said last December that the expansion of relations between the Islamic Republic and the Republic of Tatarstan is beneficial to both sides.

President Ahmadinejad also called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Kazan in all areas, particularly in the energy sector.

He also described the mutual relations as brotherly and noted that there is no limitation for the expansion of bilateral ties.
