Iranian and Chinese officials in a meeting in Beijing agreed to hold Iran's cultural week in China in the near future.

The issue was raised in a meeting between Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseini and his Chinese counterpart Cai Wu on Thursday during which the two sides reviewed ways of strengthening cultural bonds.

The two ministers held talks on the sidelines of the 12th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting underway in the Chinese capital.

They also stressed the need to fight cultural invasion coming from the West.

Hosseini, for his part, stressed expanding ties with China in different cultural and artistic areas.

He said Iran was ready to help promote performance of Persian language faculties in Chinese universities with the objective of fostering cultural and scientific ties between the two nations.
