Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed Iran's condolences over the death of four senior Syrian officials in a recent bomb attack in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

In a phone conversation with his Syrian counterpart, Walid al-Muallem, on Wednesday, Salehi also condemned the terrorist attack.

The Syrian nation, he noted, will undoubtedly continue to defend its national sovereignty, stability and security with firm resolve.

Salehi added that the legitimate demands of the Syrian nation will be realized through political and peaceful approaches and their broad-based participation in determining the country’s political fate.

Four senior Syrian officials including Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, deputy defense minister, Assef Shawkat, security Chief General Hisham Ikhtiyar and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmeni were killed in a bombing at the headquarters of Syria’s National Security Bureau on Wednesday.

Cabinet ministers and senior security officials were meeting inside the building at the time of the explosion. Many others, including Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim al-Shaar, were injured in the blast. He is reported to be in a stable condition.

The terrorist Free Syrian Army (FSA) and another armed group fighting against the Syrian government, have both claimed responsibility for the attack.
