Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said that the weakening of the Syrian Army through terrorist actions will only serve the interests of the Zionist regime.

“The weakening of the Syrian Army by terrorist groups or any other movement serves the Zionist regime and (undermines) the interests of the Syrian nation and the country,” Vahidi said during a telephone conversation with the new Syrian defense minister, General Fahad Jassim al-Freij.

The Iranian defense minister added, “We are sure that the powerful Syrian Army will disappoint the (hopes of) the United States and its regional allies, especially the Zionist regime, to achieve their vicious goals.”

“We have faith in the capability of the army and armed forces of Syria to establish security in the country,” Vahidi noted, adding, “The terrorists are not seeking democracy, but rather they want to create a safe zone for the Zionist regime.”

During the telephone conversation, the Syrian defense minister thanked Iran for its brave stance toward the Syrian issue and said that Syria, under Bashar al-Assad, is facing a “U.S.-Zionist plot” that is primarily aimed at undermining the core of the resistance movement against the Zionist regime.

He added that the terrorist attack that led to the assassination of the top Syrian military officials will “further strengthen the will of the Syrian Army in the fight against terrorists.”
