Mohammad Hassan Asferi, a member of the Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, condemned the July 18 terrorist attack in Damascus denouncing the West and the Arab League for interfering in Syria’s internal affairs, ISNA reported on Friday.
“These countries have reached an agreement to overthrow [President] Bashar al-Assad’s government contrary to what Syrians, who love their government, want,” Asferi stated.
The lawmaker said armed terrorists from Arab countries enter Syria to create insecurity, adding that assassinations and bombings will only turn the Syrian public against foreign powers.
His remarks came two days after a bomb attack on the headquarters of National Security Bureau in Damascus killed Syrian Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, his deputy Assef Shawkat and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani.
National Security chief General Hisham Ikhtiyar, who was injured along with Interior Minister Mohammed al-Shaar in the bombing, was pronounced dead on Friday.
Asferi said Iran wants the Syrian crisis to be approached in line with international law and the decisions of the recent Geneva conference on Syria, from which Tehran was absent, so that calm can be restored to the Arab nation.
The Iranian lawmaker concluded that the Western-backed pressure mounted on Syria aims to stop the resistance against Israel by the Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian groups.
