Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Sunday that it is a “wishful thinking” to imagine that the government in Syria can be easily replaced by another.

“This view that that a (power) vacuum will be created in Syria and the government will be easily replaced by another government is just a wishful thinking,” Salehi said in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Muallem in Tehran.

Foreign Minister al-Muallem also said the Beshar al-Assad government is committed to Kofi Annan’s six-point peace plan for ending the Syrian conflict.

The following is Annan's six-point plan:

1. Syrian-led political process to address the aspirations and concerns of the Syrian people

2. UN-supervised cessation of armed violence in all its forms by all parties to protect civilians

3. All parties to ensure provision of humanitarian assistance to all areas affected by the fighting, and implement a daily two-hour humanitarian pause

4. Authorities to intensify the pace and scale of release of arbitrarily detained persons

5. Authorities to ensure freedom of movement throughout the country for journalists

6. Authorities to respect freedom of association and the right to demonstrate peacefully

Iran has repeatedly expressed its backing for the Annan plan and insisted that the Syrian crisis should be resolved through dialogue between the government and opposition without the intervention of foreigners.
