Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi stressed that the Islamic Awakening movement in the region has provided a great chance and a unique opportunity for the materialization of the Palestinian cause.

Speaking at a meeting with Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior official of the Palestinian Hamas movement, here in Tehran on Saturday, Salehi pointed to the rising tides of Islamic Awakening in the regional states, and said he is optimistic about the positive outcomes of the current developments in the region on the Palestinian issue and cause.

"Definitely, countries and nations' determination to continue defending and supporting Palestine until the freedom of the Holy Quds will get stronger after the establishment of the governments which rise from the will and causes of the regional Muslin nations."

Salehi further reiterated Iran's principled policy of defending the Palestinian cause.

Zahar, for his part, stressed that Palestinians will continue resistance against the Zionist regime and will not retreat from their rights and principles.

Since the beginning of 2011, the Muslim world has witnessed popular uprisings and revolutions similar to what happened in Iran in 1979.

Tunisia saw the overthrow of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in a popular revolution in January, which was soon followed by a revolution which toppled Hosni Mubarak in Egypt in February.

Libya was the third country touched by the Islamic Awakening. Libyans also embraced victory after months of bloody campaign against the country's dictator, Muammar al-Qaddafi.

Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Yemen have since been the scene of protests against their totalitarian rulers, who have resorted to brutal crackdown on demonstrations to silence their critics.

In Yemen, although the people have toppled the dictator and elected a president, the revolution still continues as allies and family members of the former dictator, Ali Abdullah Saleh, still hold key posts in the country and have not been brought to justice.
