“The views of Iranian and Indian officials are similar and given India’s role in the region, they are also eager to see the Syrian issue resolved peacefully. We regularly consult with our Indian friends,” Akhoundzadeh said on Friday.
He added that Iran and India should cooperate within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement to bring peace and stability back to Syria.
Akhoundzadeh said reports indicate NAM members are reaching a consensus on Syria.
“Those who pursue turmoil, massacre of innocents, and disruption of regional stability will gradually become isolated,” the Iranian deputy foreign minister pointed out.
The top Iranian official stated that international community along with regional nations welcome the establishment of peace through negotiations and want an immediate cessation of foreign aid to terrorists seeking to disrupt security and order in the region.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the insurgents are foreign nationals.
