Senior Iranian lawmaker Ala'eddin Boroujerdi said the extradition of former Iranian ambassador to Jordan Nosratollah Tajik to US would be another hostile action by the UK against Iran.

Speaking to Khabar Online, the head of national security and foreign policy commission of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) referred to the measures taken by the commission on Tajik's case and the British official’s decision on extraditing him to the US.

"As you know, it's some years they have raised such issue and we regard it rather as a psychological war waged against us," he said.

Tajik was arrested in 2006 for purchasing night-vision goggles for what Iranian diplomatic officials say is a private research company. British legal officials accused him of allegedly trying to export the equipment to Iran for military purposes. He has been under house arrest for more than five years.

Boroujerdi asserted: "However in my estimation the UK won't extradite Mr. Tajik to the Americans, but if they do, that will be their another hostile move against the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Maintaining that Iran's Foreign Ministry has the taken several actions to release Tajik, the head of national security and foreign policy commission of Majlis said: "It's better to ask Mr. Ramin Mehmanparast [Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman] about those measures."

Earlier Mohammad Mahdi Shahriari, the other member of national security commission told Khabar Online: "The Foreign Ministry has hired a defense lawyer to pursue the case of Tajik and as I know the legal proceedings have proved that he is innocent."

On Friday, deputy head of national security and foreign policy commission of Majlis Esmail Kowsari also criticized the approach of the British government to the case: "The extradition of Tajik to the United States after five years of house arrest for baseless reasons would be illegal and illogical."
