Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said today that his organization is to implement a bill passed by Iran's Majlis (parliament) on downgrading ties with UK.

Earlier Iranian lawmakers voted for expelling the British ambassador to Tehran, reducing the level of ties to charge d'affaires and limiting trade and cultural ties with that country.

Stressing that that Foreign Ministry will be legally required to execute the bill, Mehmanparast pointed out: "We have always recommended the British officials to revise their former approaches to the Islamic Republic of Iran and prepare the ground for developing the relations between the two countries."

"Obviously after the latest steps taken by British government, Iranian people became sensitive to the current relations with the UK and as the representatives of the people, lawmakers reacted to the hostile measures adopted by them," he said.

"However the bill is revisable and the ties could be upgraded once more if the British government changes its former approach to Iran and facilitate the path for developing the bilateral relation in the best interests of both countries", the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.
