An Iranian lawmaker says the world powers should be careful in their calculations in the upcoming talks with Iran and recognize the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy rights.

“The Western governments must know that Iran will never retreat from its nuclear [energy] rights,” Member of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Javad Jahangir-Zadeh said on Thursday.

The latest round of the talks between Iran and the five members of the P5+1 group (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.

They agreed to hold the next round of the talks in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.

Jahangir-Zadeh added that the success of the Istanbul talks has troubled Israel, which is now trying to convince the P5+1 officials to intensify the oil sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

“If the Western world wants these talks to have positive results, it should not be deceived by the Zionists,” he added.

On May 1, Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reported that Israel’s National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror is conducting clandestine negotiations with European officials in an attempt to sway Brussels over the upcoming round of the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group.

Amidror had made another visit to Moscow two weeks earlier to hold similar talks with the Russian officials, including Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The US, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

In a bid to pile up pressure on the country, the US and EU have recently imposed tough financial and oil sanctions against Iran.

Iran has repeatedly dismissed the Western allegations over its nuclear activities, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
