Khabar Online- Mohammad Reza Asfari, who sits on the board of directors of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy commissions, claimed the withdrawal of US naval vessels should be on the agenda of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) conference to be held in late August in Tehran.

Speaking to Khabar Online on Sunday, Asfari stressed that NAM conference leaders should devise a solution--and issue a formal statement--regarding the withdrawal of US naval vessels from the Persian Gulf.

Emphasizing the significance of the Islamic Awakening sweeping the region, Asfari maintained that committees should be formed during the NAM conference to discuss the demands of freedom-seeking peoples in countries like Bahrain, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Asfari also recognized the importance of addressing the poverty, starvation, and homelessness that has engulfed Somalia.

“Today, millions of Somalis are struggling to escape poverty, and are at risk of being invaded by outsiders--the conference should address these issues as well.”

The Non-Aligned Movement was formed 52 years ago amidst the Cold War when countries who wanted neither to align with the USSR nor the United States signed a pact to remain neutral.
