Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says Islam plays a pivotal role in the national unity of Iraq and any kind of dispute will be damaging for the country’s interests and national security.

“Any kind of dispute will be detrimental to the interests and national security of Iraq and only countries that are worried about the emergence of a powerful and progressing Iraq in the region benefit from discord in Iraq,” Larijani said in a meeting with the Secretary General of Iraq’s Kurdistan Islamic Union Muhammad Faraj on Thursday.

The Iranian Majlis speaker underlined Islam as the main pivot of national unity in Iraq, saying that the key to the development of Iraq is adherence of all political groups and currents to Islam and the law, and efforts to reconstruct the Arab country.

Mohammad Faraj, for his part, said following the path of Islam is the only way for the progress of Iraq.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a great country in the region, has always wanted to be the pivot of unity among the Islamic countries.
