In an exclusive interview with the Arabic-language news channel al-Alam in Cairo on Thursday, Salehi said Iran seeks a peaceful solution to the Syria crisis, which would be Syrian-Syrian and allow the Syrian nation to choose its suitable options and pave the way for negotiations between the Syrian government and opposition groups.
Salehi further noted that Syrians are the only ones to determine the fate and future of their country.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
