Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Singaporean counterpart Halimah Yacob discussed Tehran's nuclear issue and the problems facing the regional states in a meeting here in Tehran on Saturday.

"At the meeting, important issues, including Iran's nuclear case and such regional problems as terrorism and extremism, were discussed and reviewed," Larijani said in a joint press conference after his meeting with Yacob in Tehran today.

Stressing that Iran and Singapore enjoy good trade and parliamentary relations, he expressed the hope that the Singaporean speaker's visit to Iran would help further expand the bilateral ties between the two countries in different fields.

Yacob, for her part, referred to the age-old relations between Tehran and Singapore, and said the Singaporean people are willing to further become acquainted with the Iranian civilization.

She also invited Larijani to visit her country.

Yacob arrived in Tehran on Saturday for a five-day visit at the invitation of Larijani.

During her stay in Tehran, the top Singaporean parliamentarian plans to confer with senior Iranian officials on the expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two friendly nations.

A group of parliamentarians and political officials are accompanying Yacob.

Yacob is the first Muslim female who has been elected as Singapore's parliament speaker.
