Iran's First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri on Saturday voiced Tehran's enthusiasm for utilizing each and every capacity and potential to expand relations with Rome in all fields.

In a message to Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, the Iranian official extended his congratulation to the Italian government and nation on the country's Republic Day, and hoped for further progress and prosperity of the country.

He further added that Iran is determined to promote its relations with friendly states including Italy, based on constructive interaction and respecting mutual interests.

Republic Day is the name of a holiday in several countries to commemorate the day when they became republics. In some countries, it is known as National Day or Proclamation Day, or by some other sort of name.

On June 2, 1946, many Italians voted in a referendum to rid of the monarchy and for the country to become a republic. The public was hostile to the monarchy, which had supported Benito Mussolini’s rule. Around that time, the Italian royal family was also exiled from Italy.
