According to diplomats in vienna the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and Group 5+1 may be extended beyond a July 20 deadline in order to reach a comprehensive agreement.

An Iranian diplomat told IRNA Tuesday evening that since the negotiating parties are returning to their capitals for more consultations, reaching the comprehensive agreement by Sunday, July 20 deadline, will be unlikely.

 

Meanwhile, another diplomat told IRNA that the talks could be prolonged if the two sides technicaly agree.

 

He added that according to the interim deal reached between Iran and the world six powers in Geneva in November 2013, the talks could be extended for another six months (till November 23, 2014).

 

Iranˈs Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters here at a press conference on Tuesday, “Enough progress has been made in the talks to continue diplomacy after July 20. The final deadline for the talks is November 25.”

 

Zarif added he was sure that US Secretary of State John Kerry would share his idea.

 

Meanwhile, Kerry told reporters on Tuesday that he will return to Washington to consult with both Congress and President Barack Obama.

 

Diplomats believe Kerry is likely to discuss extension of the talks with the two.
