Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday congratulated election of Iraqˈs parliament speaker.

Congratulating election of Salim al-Jabouri as the country’s new Parliament Speaker, he noted that this was a step forward to resolve the political crisis in Iraq.

 

Talking to IRNA, he noted that election of Iraqˈs parliament speaker can boost the national trust in the war-torn country.

 

Iraqi leaders gave a strong response to terrorists who seek division among them by electing the new speaker, Amir-Abdollahian noted.

 

He underlined that Iraqˈs Kurdish, Sunni and Shia leaders will disappoint their enemies by boosting their national unity and stressing on their countryˈs sovereignty and constitution.

 

Iraqi lawmakers have elected Salim al-Jabouri, a well-known moderate Sunni politician, as the country’s new parliament speaker on Tuesday.

 

After the election of the parliament speaker, lawmakers are now trying to pick the next prime minister and president.

 

Under a de facto agreement among communities in Iraq, the prime minister is a Shia Arab, the president a Kurd, and the parliament speaker a Sunni Arab.
