The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva on Friday dismissed a special session of the UN Human Rights Council and its alleged outcomes, labelling the move as “openly politicized.”

According to Khabaronline, an Iranian news agency, In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the Iranian Mission stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran rejects the UN Human Rights Council’s special session and its alleged outcomes as an openly politicized act, completely devoid of any sincere concern for human rights.”

The message further asserted that the proponents of the session have never been genuinely concerned about the rights of the Iranian people. “Had they been concerned, they would not have imposed inhuman sanctions that seriously violate fundamental rights, nor would they tolerate or justify Israel’s war of aggression—referred to as a ‘dirty job’—which has killed or injured more than 5,000 Iranians,” the statement continued.

The Iranian Mission in Geneva emphasised that the country possesses “robust, independent, and effective national accountability mechanisms” and therefore rejects any pretext for politicised foreign intervention. The mission noted that, per the instructions of Iranian President Pezeshkian, a comprehensive investigation into the root causes of recent events is currently underway.

Concluding the statement, the mission stressed that all cases involving detainees will be handled with “justice, fairness, and Islamic clemency,” adding that the rights of Iranian citizens are guaranteed exclusively through independent legal processes.

The reaction follows a special session of the Human Rights Council regarding recent unrest in Iran, during which an anti-Iranian resolution was adopted with 25 votes in favour and 7 against.
