Iran-China trade exceeds $4bn in Q1

Trade exchanges between Iran and China surged past $4 billion in the first quarter of 2023, which rose by 5 percent compared to the same period last year, the latest figures by China’s General Administration of Customs show.

The administration announced that Iran-China trade exchanges stood at $4.045 billion in the January-March period, up from $3.855 billion in 2022.

China imported $1.135 billion worth of goods from Iran during the mentioned period, which is down by 41 percent from $1.929 billion a year earlier. The decline is blamed on a 20-percent drop in oil prices.

Meanwhile, the country’s exports to Iran grew 51 percent in the first quarter of 2023, as it exported $2.910 billion worth of goods to the Islamic Republic.
