Supreme Leader urges commemoration of martyrs despite plots

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that although the arrogant powers are against efforts by Iranian people to preserve the memory of its martyrs, the nation should continue to pay homage to the martyrs and appreciate their bravery and jihad.

The virtues of the martyrs should be passed down to the younger generation through attractive and innovative programs, according to remarks by the Supreme Leader published on Thursday.

Commemorating the name of the martyrs is synonymous with jihad, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The remarks had been made in a meeting on May 30 in Tehran with officials in charge of holding a national congress in commemoration of martyrs of Sabzevar and Neyshabur, two cities in the northeastern Iranian province of Razavi Khorasan.

Some 4,500 people from  the two cities were martyred during the Iraqi-imposed war of the 1980s.
