Raisi made the comment in the Nicaraguan capital Managua on Wednesday morning local time as he addressed members of the National Assembly on the second day of his stay in the Latin American country.
He said that arrogant powers seek to impose their will on other nations. However, he added, a new world order is being shaped, with developments showing that the power of the US and other arrogant powers is declining while Latin American and West Asian nations are rising up against them.
The Iranian president noted that the arrogant powers, including the United States, also use “occupation, coups and sanctions” as tools against independent nations.
He added, that policy however failed when it comes to Iran which managed to turn sanctions and threats into opportunities for progress.
Raisi also held a separate meeting with the head of Nicaragua’s National Assembly, Gustavo Porras Cortés.
The Iranian president hailed the Nicaraguan parliament for sticking to its revolutionary ideas and standing up against imperialist powers and their excessive demands.
He also said that the Islamic Republic seeks constructive and friendly cooperation with Nicaragua, adding that there are numerous capacities to expand bilateral relations.
The top Nicaraguan lawmaker said that it is a matter of honor for his country to have friendly relations with Iran which he described as a nation struggling to decide its fate and therefore being aligned with Nicaragua.
Nicaragua is the second leg of the Iranian president’s Latin American tour that began in Venezuela on Monday. Raisi will conclude his five-day tour in Cuba.
