With his latest feature, 'Nader and Simin: A Separation', the acclaimed Iranian film director Asghar Farhadi joined nine other nominees for the International Press Academy's Satellite Awards.

According to Khabar Online correspondent, the 16th International Press Academy's Satellite Awards is scheduled be held on December 18, 2011 in Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California. The Satellite Awards are annually given by the International Press Academy. The awards were originally known as the Golden Satellite Awards.
 
'Nader and Simin: A Separation' is competing with nine other candidates in the foreign films category including ‘A Torinoi Lo’ (The Turin Horse) directed by Béla Tarr from Hungry; ‘Faust’ by Aleksandr Sokurov from Russia; ‘Le Gamin Au Velo’ (The Kid with a Bike) by Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne from Belgium, France and Italy.
 
‘Mozart's Sister’ (la sœur de Mozart) by René Féret from France; ‘Las Acacias’ by Pablo Giorgelli from Argentina; ‘13 Assassins’ by Takeshi Miike from Japan; ‘Le Havre’ by Aki Kaurismaki from Finland, France and Germany; ‘Miss Bala’ by Gerardo Naranjo from Mexico; ‘Mysteries of Lisbon’ (Mistérios de Lisboa) by the late Raúl Ruiz from Portugal    
are the other competitors.
 
'Nader and Simin' is centered on the story of Simin, a middle class Iranian woman who wants to leave the country, taking her husband Nader and their young daughter in the hope of a better life. Nader refuses to leave simply because wants to care for his old father who is suffering from Alzheimer. As a result a dispute ensues which ends up in family court.
 
The film earlier lighted up the competition section of the last Berlin Film Festival. The film was praised both by the viewers and critics at Berlinale and won the coveted Golden Bear of the festival as the best film. Farhadi had earlier garnered the Silver Bear of the best director in 2009 for his 'About Elly'.
