“Over the past 30 years, the Iranian nation has turned sanctions into an opportunity for growth and development in advanced science and technology,” Chairman of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday.
“Iran has now made a considerable leap in most technological sectors,” Boroujerdi added.
The West accuses Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and has used the pretext to impose a series of international and unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
Iran refutes the allegations, arguing that as a committed member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty it is entitled to pursuing a peaceful nuclear program.
Boroujerdi said Iran is the only country that is committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in its peaceful nuclear activities and which is guided by the religious decree of its Leader.
“Using nuclear weapons has no place in the Islamic Republic’s defense strategy,” he added.
On February 22, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Iran considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons “a grave sin” from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint.
The Leader described the proliferation of nuclear weapons as “senseless, destructive and dangerous,” adding that the Iranian nation has never sought and will never seek atomic bombs as the country already has the conventional capacity to challenge the nuclear-backed powers.
