“If the members of the P5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) have good intentions, are committed to international law and do not try to illegally impose their views, there is hope for the Baghdad talks,” Ali Akbar Velayati said on Saturday.
“Iran will not tolerate any pressure,” Velayati said in an interview with Mehr News Agency.
The Iranian official added that Tehran would conduct the negotiations within the framework of international regulations and Iran's law.
The latest round of the talks between Iran and the P5+1 was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.
The next meeting will be held on May 23 in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
Referring to Iran's choice of location for the next round of talks, Velayati said the gesture proves that the government of Nouri al-Maliki is capable of providing security in Iraq after the withdrawal of American forces.
The last US troops, except for military contingents attached to the US Embassy in Baghdad and US consulates in the country, left Iraq on December 18, 2011.
