A senior Iranian commander says US President Barack Obama’s support for the UAE claims over Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf does not change the reality of Iran's sovereignty over three islands.

“According to credible historical documents, Iran's sovereignty over the three islands -- the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa -- is indisputable,” Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, a senior military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said on Friday.

Javani added that the anti-Iranian claims lack any “solid, legal” basis and are only intended to pressure the Islamic Republic. The “false claims” are part of the recent Western plots to “entrap the Middle East countries” and bring them onboard against the Islamic Republic, he added.

The issue of the three Persian Gulf islands is a plot to create rift or tension between the Islamic Republic and other regional countries and ultimately serve US interests, Javani cautioned.

In a joint statement with the visiting UAE Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday, Obama backed the Abu Dhabi’s claims about the three Persian Gulf islands.

Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa have historically been part of Iran, proof of which can be found in countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.
