Iran has taken measures to speed up development of the South Pars gas field, an official said.

Managing-Director of Petropars Company Mohammad Javad Shams said the country has employed thousands of new workforce to accelerate the startup of the South Pars Gas Field's phase 12.

Shams told the oil ministry's website, Shana, that the number of workforce in the area has increased to more than 11 thousand people simultaneous with setting up new camps on the site.

He said the first part of South Pars Gas Field's phase 12 will come on line by commissioning the first train of its gas processing unit this year.

Generally, South Pars phase 12 has made progress by 80 percent and foreign and domestic contractors are determined to launch the phase in the current Iranian year (ending on March 20, 2013), the official said.

According to Shams, onshore and drilling sectors of the South Pars gas field's phase 12 have made progress by 76.7 and 72 percent, respectively.

He went on to say that new camps had been setup on the sites of SP's phases 12 and 17 in order to increase the number of workforce.

While under a buyback contract, Petropars Company is required to meet 51 percent of its needs in services and management from Iranian companies, now the figure has reached 66 percent, Shams noted.

In the offshore sector of the phase, installation of equipment in SPD1, SPD2 and SPD3 goes ahead on schedule. Meanwhile decks of the phase will be uploaded September this year and the deck of Platform A will be set up in October which will be followed by initial production from Platform A12.

South Pars gas field phase 12 is aimed at the production of 75 million cubic meters of gas per day for injection into the national gas grid plus feeding LNG units. Production of 120 thousand barrels of gas condensates and 750 tons of sulfur per day are the other goals of developing South Pars gas field phase 12.
