Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says respecting the rights and freedom of the Syrian people is among the basic policies of the Islamic Republic, stressing that the crisis in Syria should be resolved through political approaches.

In a  meeting with Sughra Imam, the special envoy of Pakistani President Zardari in Tehran, President Ahmadinejad said, “Just as Pakistan stresses on resolving the existing differences in Syria through indigenized and political solutions, the Islamic Republic of Iran considers political approaches based on the interests of the Syrian people as the only way out of the current situation”.
Criticizing certain regional countries for interfering in Syria’s military conflicts, the Iranian president said the continuation of clashes in Syria complicates the situation and renders the future bleak.
“In the new scheme the Americans have devised for the Middle East, making changes in all countries has been predicted and I am sure that they have plans for changes in Saudi Arabia and are definitely trying to create unrest in Iran and Pakistan because they do not want Muslim countries to gain power,” Ahmadinejad said.
Sughra Imam, for her part, stressed that Pakistan insists on resolving Syria’s crisis through political approaches based on the Syrian nation’s demands.

“Pakistan has always respected Syria’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence, and underlines the principle of the non-interference by foreigners in other countries [affairs].”
