The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday condemned assassination attempt on Mehdi al-Sumaidaie, the head of Iraq’s Sunni Fatwa Council.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said the enemies, through such acts, have been trying to create division among the Muslim Ummah.

He added an intensification of terrorist moves against Iraqi Muslims including Shia and Sunni shows the “true nature” of those who orchestrate such “criminal acts”.

Mehmanparast expressed hope that Iraqi Muslims prevent the enemies from achieving their plots by adhering to “national unity and Islamic solidarity”.
