Ramin Mehmanparast censured the blasphemous cartoons, which come on top of the recent anti-Islam movie produced in the US, as an “organized plot.”
“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns insult to the Islamic sanctities and sympathizes with the hurt feelings of the Islamic Ummah,” he said on Thursday,.
“The [existing] evidence indicates that such blasphemous acts are intentionally adopted by the Zionist circles to counter the wave of the Islamic Awakening,” The Iranian top diplomat pointed out.
“The systematic and continued silence of the Western countries with regard to such abhorrent measures, which is in line with Islamophobia, is the main factor behind continuation of such sacrilegious acts,” Mehmanparast noted.
The Iranian diplomat pointed out that the principle of freedom of speech should never be exploited as a pretext to insult the religious beliefs of other nations as such sacrilegious measures run counter to the contents of the UN Charter.
Mehmanparast also called on the French government to understand the feelings of the Muslims across the world and take appropriate measures to condemn the insulting acts.
French weekly Charlie Hebdo published cartoons of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on Wednesday.
The publication of the offensive cartoons came amid widespread outrage over a US-made film that insults the prophet of Islam.
The sacrilegious movie has sparked a new wave of outrage across the Muslim world.
