Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the United Nations is an important international body and it is necessary for the Iranian nation to be present at this organization.

“The United Nations is the only place of reference where all global issues and viewpoints of [different] nations are put to discussion,” Ahmadinejad said in a press conference upon his return on Friday from the 67th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Noting that the world is in conditions when it should leave behind one historical era to enter a new one, Ahmadinejad added that it is only natural for the Iranian nation to play its deserved role in establishing the new world order.

“Most global media [outlets] are in the hands of individuals who do not want the Iranian nation’s message to reach other nations,” he said, stressing that his main goal in giving interviews to different international media is to convey the Iranian nation’s message.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addressed the 67th UN General Assembly meeting on Wednesday criticizing the existing global politics for discrimination, unilateralism, and double standards.

This has been Ahmadinejad’s eighth trip to New York for a General Assembly session since he took office in 2005.
