Iran has rejected a request by a European Parliament (EP) delegation to visit the country when the delegation set a precondition for the visit which amounted to interference in Tehran’s internal affairs, an Iranian lawmaker said.

A group of EP members headed by chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iran Tarja Cronberg was scheduled to make a six-day visit to Iran and meet with the Friendship Group of Iran’s Majlis (parliament).

“Unfortunately the European Union created obstacles by its new decisions as well as irrational and unusual requests and caused problems for the visit,” head of Iran’s Majlis Delegation for Relations with EP, Kazem Jalali, said on Saturday.

The EP officials requested on Friday to meet two Iranian nationals, who have been sentenced to prison on charges of breaching Iran's national security.

Jalali added that the Israeli lobby opposed the visit since the beginning and unfortunately the European Parliament was influenced by that lobby, demonstrating that it does not have necessary independence in making decisions.

“The European Parliament must know that the Islamic Republic will be never influenced by such biased pressures and will continue its fundamental and rational policies in different fields such as human rights.”
