In a statement released on Saturday, the Iranian council stressed that the delegation was set to participate in a meeting of the UN Third Committee to announce the Islamic Republic of Iran's stance on human rights issues. However, Washington prevented the delegation from attending the meeting and impeded the delegation's mission with refusing to issue visas for the Iranians.
The council also asked the president of the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary General and the chief of the committee headquarter to avoid the US government from provoking such move and notify the US of implementing its international commitments as host country to the UN.
The full statement of Iran's High Council for Human Rights is as following:
In the name of Allah
Iran's High Council for Human Rights announces its objection to the US refusal to issue visas for an Iranian delegation who wanted to attend the Third Committee of the 67th UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Even though the delegation applied for visa one month before the meeting and followed up the cases through the official sources and permanent representatives of Iran in Geneva and New York headquarters, their entry visas have not yet issued.
The US government's refusal in issuing visas was aimed at preventing the Iranian delegation, who wanted to announce Iran's stance on human rights issues, from attending the meeting and impeding the delegation's mission of cooperation and interaction with the UN.
The move was against international commitments of host country of UN, which is responsible for providing facilities in all aspects including issuing entry visas for delegations who wanted to attend in international meetings of the UN.
The US is abusing from hosting the UN through its refusal in complying with its international commitments, and its denial in issuing visa for Iranians was a clear example of its abuses.
Iran's High Council for Human Rights expects the UN General Assembly, the UN Secretary General and the chief of committee headquarter to avoid US administration of taking such measures and notify it of implementing its international commitments as host country to the UN, so that the US could not stop the interaction and cooperation of member states and their delegations with the UN.
