“Since the Islamic Republic of Iran has no atomic bombs, and will never seek it, and considers such weapons ineffective, it has no concern,” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Sweden's new ambassador to Iran, Peter Tejler, on Monday.
He added that exerting pressure on the UN nuclear agency to publish “political” reports on Iran would not solve any problems.
The Iranian chief executive noted that Iran has always been ready for talks and has shown the highest degree of cooperation with the IAEA.
Iran’s nuclear energy program has been politicized, the president said, adding that the US government has been against the Iranian nation for the past 33 years and this has nothing to do with the nuclear energy program.
“Their behavior has nothing to do with Iran’s nuclear issue because this [US] government previously supported a cruel dictatorial regime in Iran and its nuclear program, but since the Iranian nation toppled that dictator, they have incessantly opposed this nation's progress” Ahmadinejad stated.
The Swedish ambassador presented his credentials to the Iranian president and said he would make utmost efforts to improve bilateral relations.
He emphasized that all issues pertaining to Iran’s nuclear energy program should be resolved through diplomatic dialogs.
The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.
Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
